"I was scared to do my first bike race with a bunch of boys, I was scared to quit my day job to pursue my cycling passion, I was scared to race my bike after I crashed and broke my arm. Now that I think about it, I'm scared to do things on a fairly regular basis. My point is that I don't let that fear run my life. And because of that I've accomplished more than I ever thought possible.

I'm not sure who this quote belongs to, I read it in a Buddhist mantra book and it stuck with me. I repeat it in my head and sometimes write it down on paper repeatedly before a race in order to get focused and build confidence. The mantra says, "I will create the poetry of my life with toughness and determination." It's a great reminder that I'm writing the story of my life and it's up to me to make things happen."
