Hamstring pain is generally experienced as a sharp pain in the back of the upper leg. It is normally caused by stretching of the muscles that run along the back of the thigh beyond their normal range. People who experience hamstring pain will commonly hear a ‘pop’ or tearing feeling that accompanies the sharp pain. When experiencing moderate to severe hamstring pain, it is very common to see bruising and discoloration on the back of the leg. Severe hamstring injuries can be very painful and that pain can linger for months if not addressed. Moderate hamstring pain can often be treated at home. In many cases, the SpiderTech Hamstring Spider can reduce the pain of a strained hamstring, and can allow the speedy resumption of normal daily activity.
Hamstrings muscles are easily strained or torn because they are often times very tight and weak. The muscles are torn either at the origin of the muscle which is at the base of the pelvis, right where you sit. They can also be torn at the musculoskeletal junction which is just below these ‘sits’ bones. There is local pain and bruising at the injury site and because of gravity, the bruising usually extends down toward the knee which makes it look worse than it might be. The muscle can get very swollen because of this excess fluid which also causes more pain. It is painful and difficult to bend the knee and walking is also difficult especially as you swing the leg forward to step. The back of the thigh will be weakened and it is difficult to sit because of the pain.
